When I feel like shit, which let’s be honest, was most of 2020 from March 13th on…I have to remind myself it is time to rebalance my thoughts and my habits. Life’s challenges and joys will come in waves and often change when you least expect it. The comfort is knowing that we have control over our own thoughts, which controls our feelings and actions. I am guilty of neglecting self-care putting my son, work, chores all else above what I know I need to be doing to be healthy (sleeping, drinking water, exercise etc.), but ultimately the responsibility for taking care of my health lies on my shoulders. I am the one guiding my thoughts and not allowing myself to meet my basic needs like meal breaks. I realize it is up to me to figure my shit out and take steps to rebalance my emotions and health.

Here are things to consider and try: Ask yourself

Is it sitting in stillness?

Is it a mind dump on paper?

Is it a vent session with an old girlfriend?

Is it getting offline and stop readying negative 24/7 news cycles, social media posts and opinions?

Is it turning off your cell to free your brain and time from being controlled by a device?

Is it getting outside in nature?

Is it giving thanks and remembering something to be grateful for?

Is it dancing around not giving a fuck?

Is it singing favorite songs, in my case, really badly in the shower pretending I am on stage?

Is it taking a hike or walk detaching from to do lists?

Is it eating better with more fresh vegetables, fruits and protein?

Is it taking a break from caffeine?

Is it not giving into sugar cravings used as a temporary (crappy) energy boost?

Is it watching old movies you love…in my case, Happy Gilmore, Gremlins, Goonies, Office Space, Christmas Vacation, Harry Potter and more?

Is it reading your favorite quotes?

Is it reading a book from a favorite author?

Is it engaging in self help guides through podcasts, Ted Talks, or inspirational readings (Wayne Dyer is one of my favorites)?

Is it laughing with an old friend?

Is it lighting candles, getting new perfume and taking a hot shower?

Is it practicing extra self care with face masks, hair treatments and nail care?

Is it pushing yourself to try new foods or cook a new recipe?

Ultimately we are the masters of our habits and our thoughts. You Got This!
